Is she 3 or 30?

Kate has always been a talker. She started talking well at 18 months and has not shut up since. We have never talked baby talk to her and she spends the majority of her time with adults. This has led to to a 3 year-old that talks like she is 30. Examples to follow...

Recently, she was telling a teacher at her preschool a story about her dog. When asked if she just one pet she responded "actually, I have 2 dogs, 3 cats and 3 fish."

At the football game on Friday she was looking through her Uncle Gary's binoculars and he asked what she was looking for. She responded " I am looking for Carleigh and she is no where to be seen."

Kate has picked up a new transition statement that she uses when she is wants to move to a subject that she finds more appealing that the one we have chosen. I was talking to her about the importance of keeping her toys picked up out of the floor and she discussed it with me for a moment and then said " In any event, I need a snack. Can I have some cheezits?"

Incidentally is probably my favorite of all her "grown-up" words. She uses it perfectly in her stories. I find it hard not to laugh at her when she uses such "big" words and phrases. She is so much like me in so many ways but when talks, she is all Clint. It makes me love them both even more!

Gold High-Heels

Where did this child come from? A question I ask myself everyday. My Kate was born a girly girl. She loves dresses, wants to be a cheerleader and often recites a list of people who think she is beautiful. She has a pair of gold high-heeled dress up shoes that were her cousins (10 years ago). She believes that they are the most beautiful shoes that have ever been. Two Sundays ago she asked her Nana if she could wear them to church. Nana knows me pretty well so her response was "no, your momma will shoot me." The following week Kate insisted that the shoes were the perfect accessory to the skirt she was wearing . She wore me down and I agreed that she could wear them to church. She marched into church on Sunday and the compliments began immediately. Each time someone told her how cute her shoes were, she thanked them and then glared at me with a look that said "I told you they looked good". Truthfully, she was very cute and I am glad I let her wear them.

Walker Destruction and the Bugalizer

We have loving dubbed Mere-bear the toe terrorist. She is a monster in a walker and inflicts serious damage to all who dare to go barefoot. She loves her walker and so last night when the VBS nursery worker put her in the walker no one thought much about it. That is until it collapsed into a heap with my 8 month old in it. Thankfully, she is fine but the walker was a total loss. Only a child of mine could destroy something so completely.

This morning the girls and I played outside for a while. Our backyard would be lots of fun but for the mosquitoes that consider me lunch. To prevent these attacks, I purchased a ThermaCell mosquito repellent. It is a handy little gadget that makes it possible for me to enjoy the outdoors. While outside this morning, Kate noticed that a mosquito was on my leg and suggested that I go and get the Bugalizer. Where does she come up with this stuff!

Sandals were Freakles

I spent a considerable amount of time on Saturday trying to remember what Kate called sandals when she first began talking. Finally, on Sunday it came to me that sandals were freakles. It seems that everyday something funny happens here. Either Kate says something that makes me laugh hysterically or Meredith hits a new milestone. That is why I am now blogging. So that there is a reference I can go to when I can't remember what sandals were called freakles when Kate was 2. When you read this I hope my girls bring you as much joy as they bring me.
